Recently, Zhou Guangyuan, a researcher at the Chinese Academy of Sciences Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics, and Nie Heran, an associate researcher, have made new progress in the structural design and research of high-performance polyimide aerogels. The relevant results were published in the Journal of Chemical Engineering.
Polyimide aerogels have the advantages of light weight, high and low temperature resistance, high specific surface area, low thermal conductivity, and have been successfully used in aerospace, space exploration and other fields. However, the polyimide aerogel prepared by sol-gel method with commercial dianhydride and diamine monomer still has problems such as high shrinkage and poor dimensional stability. It is difficult to meet the requirements of low density and low thermal conductivity at the same time, which hinders its further practical application.
In this work, the team developed two new "paddle type" diamine monomers based on the structure of diphenylmethylene fluorene, which were copolymerized with dianhydride monomers to obtain moderately rigid polyimide aerogel materials. It is found that the aerogel material has excellent dimensional stability, high porosity, high specific surface area and good thermal properties. Heating at 200 ℃ for 1 hour, the upper surface temperature is below 60 ℃, and the thermal conductivity is as low as 54.3mW * m-1 * K-1, demonstrating excellent high-temperature insulation performance.
This work provides a new idea for designing polyimide aerogel materials with excellent thermal insulation performance and dimensional stability.
