Fumed silica, commonly known as "fumed white carbon black", is an amorphous silica powder obtained by burning silicon tetrachloride and methyl trioxide in a hydrogen-oxygen flame. Its primary particle size is between 7 Between -80nm, the specific surface area is generally greater than 100m2/g.
Fumed silica is one of the most important nano-scale inorganic raw materials. Due to its specific properties such as small particle size, large specific surface area, strong surface adsorption, high chemical purity, and good dispersion performance, it has shown excellent performance in materials. Therefore, it is widely used in coatings, inks, adhesives, sealants, greases, rubber, foamed silicone, unsaturated resins, batteries, etc. In the field of polymer industry, it is called "industrial monosodium glutamate".
Main application areas
1.Paints, inks, liquid coatings
Fumed silica is widely used in the fields of paints, inks and liquid coatings. It is mainly used as a rheological additive, which can effectively prevent the sedimentation and stratification of pigments and fillers, improve weather resistance and scratch resistance, and improve the adhesion between the coating and the substrate. Bond strength.
2.powder coating
The addition of fumed silica can effectively reduce the adhesion between powder particles and between the powder and the tube wall, prevent the powder from being firm and agglomerated, endow the powder with good fluidity and looseness, and improve the powder's performance. The one-time powder coating rate prevents and reduces sagging, and at the same time can significantly increase the scratch resistance of the powder coating film.
3.Adhesives and Sealants
The excellent reinforcing, thickening and thixotropic properties of fumed silica can prevent the precipitation of adhesives and sealants during storage and sag during curing, and improve their tear strength and bond strength.
4.lubricating oil
Using fumed silica as a lubricant additive can not only form a thin film that is easy to shear on the friction surface, reduce the friction coefficient, but also fill and repair the friction surface to a certain extent, and play an anti-wear effect. After modifying the surface of the hydrophilic fumed silica, adding it into the lubricating base oil can produce a lubricant with better high temperature performance and anti-wear performance.
5.Foamed silicone and silicone rubber
Fumed silica can form physical or chemical bonds with silicone rubber macromolecules to achieve reinforcement.
6.Unsaturated resin
Adding a small amount of fumed silica to the unsaturated resin can give the resin excellent transparency and excellent physical properties, and improve the quality of downstream products.
7.Application of Gel Battery
Fumed silica has the functions of thickening, anti-caking, controlling system rheology and thixotropy. Besides traditional applications, it is also widely used in colloidal batteries.
In addition, fumed silica also has indispensable applications in cosmetics, defoamer, electronic packaging, pesticides, medicine, fertilizer, feed and other industries.
